Well it's been a long time. To make it short and sweet, I took about a year off of running to try some different things like weight training. It was good for the time but I put on around 20-25lbs or so( of both muscle and fat). I finished up school and got hired at Garfield Memorial in Panguitch as an RN. I just figured it was time to get back into running again so I've set a goal to get back where I was as far as training and the race shape I was in. This little race today was quite the experience. It was put on for a lady here in town who's breast cancer had resurged. Now to put this in perspective Panguitch only has around 1500 residents, and they had over 700 people register for this race ( nearly half the town). What an awesome show of support. Anyways the race got under way and it went like this. Mile one I went out around at 5:44 I'm running with a high school kid that I thought I could pull up on him and surge by but that didn't even phase him. He stuck right there the whole time and I was burning out quick, that surge would cost me dearly later and I quickly realized I am in no shape to be pulling stunts like that running a race at 6,600 ft. elev. I back off and let him go thinking I could keep him in my sites. I went through mile 2 in 6:17. Here's where that surge really started to weigh on me, I start to feel my form go to crap and I get passed by another guy on this mile which was kind of a set back but that's life. I finished up mile 3 in 6:13 and go through the last .03 in around 10 secs. Overall I feel good about where I am right now. I weigh about 190 lbs. and when I ran St. George in 2:37 back in 2010 I was right around 167- 170 lbs. So I still have a ways to go but I know with consistent training I'll get there and back into the shape I was. Hopefully another marathon for 2014? |
